Know your technology!!!
What does that mean? I am referencing that you should know in what language that you are developing in.
I decided to write
ComicSubz in Ruby on Rails. It is all the rage right? Everyone is using it. Right? That is a ton of crap. If I knew then what I know now, I would not have gotten close to it. A year ago, I heard that you could rapidly develop an application in the language. Well, I have spent close to a year getting something to work in RoR. It has been 1 obstacle after another. Everything from ONLY the developer being able to tweak templates to RoR being quite a memory hog and that the ideal solution is to get a dedicated server and run that exclusivly with a gig or 2 of RAM. WHAT???
Had I know this, I would have called out a search for PHP developers.
Alas, I am ass deep in this project and spent too much money to turn away now.
I am only sorry that this idea is being hindered by a tech issue as opposed to a, well, bad idea issue. That remains to be seen. But I am still hopeful that it will break even. Crossing fingers.
